Antwerp is taking a great digital leap forward!

 

In the Tolhuis, at the intersection of the city and the port, ‘The Beacon’ is being developed. A business and innovation hub with offices for powerhouses like the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT) where technological corporates, innovative startups, scaleups and top researchers come together to develop strong products and brands for industry, logistics and smart cities.

 

From the beginning of September 2018, The Beacon – in addition to being our new showroom – becomes the launch platform from which Antwerp fulfills its Open For Business ™ brand promise, and places itself on the international stage as the real ‘Capital of Things.’

 

For years, Antwerp has been investing heavily in the power of digital networks and in developing an ecosystem for digital innovation, in which large and small companies, startups and scale-ups, researchers and capital providers can find each other. The city is convinced that the cross-fertilization of large technology suppliers in IoT, flexible startups and scale-ups and top research has the potential to innovate sustainably the traditional industry and logistics sectors in which “the city is already capable”. This ensures strong international positioning, new business and jobs.

 

In The Beacon (the renamed Tolhuis) that ecosystem is anchored. IoT, which essentially connects ‘stupid’ devices and infrastructure by installing communicating sensors, is ideally suited for this.

 

NADA is also a permanent presence here. We took care of the layout of the departments of, among others, the University of Antwerp, Imec and IDLab and thus gave a green character to the building.

 

In addition, The Beacon is also the test platform for the AtmossfAIR project, a joint venture between NADA, Mosmuur and the Finnish Company Genano. Together we develop sustainable air purification plants in ‘green clothing’, the effect of which is mapped by the sensors of IDLab and Imec. In short The Beacon is: a unique showroom with a breathtaking view where visitors can admire 52 moss walls, our atmosphere installation, office greenery and planting, different ecosystems, a biopod smart habitat and our PRICK collection.

Total project The Beacon for UA, Imec, Captif and City of Antwerp

Mosmuur realized the green layout of this building. In total there are about 52 moss panels in various versions and sizes to admire, as well as a Biopod-grand terrarium and biosphere, various eco-systems, our lighting collection ‘Drop of Light’, the room diverters ‘Prick’, an AtmosfAir air purification plant and a large amount of office green, plants and unique pots. Definitely worth your visit.
